USA vs Brazil Soccer Final - Confederations Cup Final

The US was a big underdog going into this game, but then again, the US was the underdog for most of the Confederations Cup tournament.

At halftime the US was up 2-0. I was watching with a Brazilian and I can tell you that he was not happy about this at all. Only problem - we had to stop watching at halftime. As it turns out, Brazil came back in the game fast and never let up. This led to Brazil defeating the US 3-2.

Now I only have a few hours of peace until he finds out Brazil won and I have to face chants of "Brazzzzzilllll, Braaaazilllllll!!!"

Although my hopes were crushed, I still think that this game was a victory for the US. I rarely see soccer coverage being talked about by the media, and hopefully this will be just the boost US Soccer needs to take hold within the States and abroad.

USA Beats Spain in Confederations Cup Soccer 2-0

The United States wasn't even supposed to have made it this far in Soccer's Confederations Cup. Last week the US had to beat Egypt by three goals and reigning World Cup Champion Italy had to loose to Brazil by 3 or more points. Although highly unlikely, this is exactly what happened, and it set up a US victory over Spain today.

US Soccer has never been that competitive on an international level, nothing like Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, the Netherlands, we really are behind on the times when it comes to soccer, but today the US showed up - and in a big way - by beating out Spain 2-0.

Hopefully this will garner some much needed media attention for the sport within US boarders. The more attention soccer gets, the money is infused into the sport, and more money means more young athletes will be interested (instead of the usual basketball and football). This will eventually give us even better players, and hopefully, eventually, a shot at the World Cup!
