The United States wasn't even supposed to have made it this far in Soccer's Confederations Cup. Last week the US had to beat Egypt by three goals and reigning World Cup Champion Italy had to loose to Brazil by 3 or more points. Although highly unlikely, this is exactly what happened, and it set up a US victory over Spain today.

US Soccer has never been that competitive on an international level, nothing like Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, the Netherlands, we really are behind on the times when it comes to soccer, but today the US showed up - and in a big way - by beating out Spain 2-0.

Hopefully this will garner some much needed media attention for the sport within US boarders. The more attention soccer gets, the money is infused into the sport, and more money means more young athletes will be interested (instead of the usual basketball and football). This will eventually give us even better players, and hopefully, eventually, a shot at the World Cup!
