Today June 12, 2009 Facebook is taking a giant step in keeping up with current technology trends - they are giving you a custom URL username. Twitter and myspace already do this. But what does that mean for you?

This means that instead of being www.facebook.com/people/johndoe/220561 - which is not all that easy to remember - you can choose your own URL name, such as www.facebookcom/j.doe (ahh much better).

Why is it important, you might ask? The new URLs will be much easier to remember and thus will create a more user friendly experience. Now instead of telling people your email so they can look you up, you can just give them your new username. This encourages sharing, friending, and increases activity on facebook.

The fiasco has already begun - twitter lit up with people waiting in anticipation - but I'm waiting, at least until tomorrow!
